The 45th running of the Irish Oaks was held on Wednesday 19th July 1939 over 1 1/2 miles of The Curragh, starting at the Howth Post. A pot of 2000 sovereigns was availble, 300 sovereigns to the second and 200 sovereigns to the third. The winner was owned by Duchess of Marlborough, trained by Captain Cecil Boyd-Rochfort at Newmarket, and ridden by Pat Beasley. The winner won by 8 lengths, with a neck between second and third. |
